punk blog

what you lookin' at PUNK? this class blog was created so students of Sybil's English 110 could communicate to one another about class stuff... complete their My Words. [this class is somewhat rooted in the themes of punk music, meaning that students have freedom in their paper's topics, and they have freedom over the language they use in their papers too.]

An Introduction to My Words:

You will need to determine 5 words (except for the first posting - see syllabus for details) for which you do not know the meanings. These words can be found in our book, any other book you are reading, a lecture from some class, the news, etc. Keep a record of these words and the additional information as assigned. Every so often, you will post these words to this very class blog (due dates are in the syllabus).

For each word you will need the following information:
1- The word in its context as you found it
2- The definition
3- The part of speech
4- Any root words, suffixes, or prefixes.
5- Its etymology and the historical meaning
6- An original sentence using the word

Many dictionaries will contain the information. To find the information online use the following steps:
=Search the web by using the word "+ etymology" For example, harried + etymology
=Use the site for the American Heritage Dictionary.
=Another source might be dictionary.com

Example:
ancestor
